Podgorica Airport Car Hire (TGD)

Montenegro's inland airport — low-cost flights and an all-year timetable.

Podgorica Airport terminal

Car Hire Collection at Podgorica Airport (TGD)

TGD is carrying a growing share of Montenegro's passenger traffic, especially low-cost airlines. Ryanair and Wizz Air fly seasonal European routes, while Air Serbia keeps a daily Belgrade link running year-round. If you land at TGD rather than TIV, picking up a vehicle here and heading to the coast is simple — the Sozina tunnel delivers you to the bay in roughly 90 minutes.

A new terminal opened in 2006; the original building now serves as a small aviation museum. The airport code TGD traces back to the city's former name, Titograd. It lies 12 km south of the city centre, linked by the main highway.

How Far Is Everything?

TGD sits 12 km south of central Podgorica with good road connections in every direction:

  • Podgorica centre: 15 min (taxi around 10 EUR)
  • Tivat / Bay of Kotor: 90 min through the Sozina tunnel (toll approx. 3.50 EUR)
  • Budva: 75 min via Sozina and the Radanovici road
  • Kolasin (ski area): 80 km north, about 75 min

Airlines Serving TGD

Year-round service: Air Serbia (Belgrade daily), plus occasional Ryanair and Wizz Air winter rotations. Summer peak: Ryanair (Stansted, Milan Bergamo, Brussels Charleroi), Wizz Air (Vienna, Budapest, Dortmund, Memmingen), TUI charters. Seasonal connections to Paris, Rome, Frankfurt, and Vienna also appear. Check schedules carefully — frequency drops steeply from October through April.

Terminal Overview

TGD operates from a single terminal with eight departure gates, two arrival gates, and approximately 5,500 m² of floor space. The car park covers 25,000 m² and holds over 600 vehicles, so finding a space is never an issue. Inside you will find a cafe, duty-free shop, ATM, and currency exchange.

Despite its compact size, TGD received the ACI Europe award for best airport under one million passengers — an acknowledgement of its well-maintained facilities and smooth passenger flow.

How Collection Works

Exit the arrivals hall and your agent will be waiting at the car park with keys and paperwork. No shuttle transfer, no remote depot — the vehicle is right there. If you are heading for the coast, drive south following signs to Virpazar / Sozina. The tunnel entrance is about 40 minutes from TGD. Top up your tank in Podgorica first, as fuel stops along the mountain section are few. See our Montenegro road trip guide for route planning.
