Tivat Airport to Perast — 20-Minute Bay Shore Drive

From the TIV exit, turn left and follow the waterfront road north through Lepetane, Muo, and Prcanj. The route clings to the shoreline with the bay on your right and steep limestone on your left. In roughly 20 minutes you reach Perast's sole street — a narrow promenade flanked by Venetian-era stone palaces.

Parking is scarce: a small lot at the village's northern end and a handful of roadside spaces on the approach are all that is available. In high season, aim to arrive before 9 am or wait until after 5 pm. The village street itself is too narrow for any parking whatsoever.

Perast's Twin Islands

St. George (Sveti Djordje)

This natural islet lies 200 metres from the shore, instantly recognisable by its dark cypress trees and the 12th-century Benedictine abbey tucked behind them. Visitors are not permitted to land, but boat operators from Perast's quay will circle the island at close range for photos. The calmest light for pictures is early morning.

Our Lady of the Rocks (Gospa od Skrpjela)

An artificial island constructed over centuries by villagers dumping rocks and scuttling old vessels. The custom is renewed each 22 July during the Fasinada festival, when locals load boats with stones and motor out to reinforce the base. Water taxis from Perast's quayside depart every 15 minutes in season for around 5 EUR return. Inside the small church you will find votive paintings left by Boka Bay mariners.

Bay of Kotor from the road

Strolling Perast

The village is entirely traffic-free — a single paved walkway runs along the water. End-to-end it takes about 10 minutes, passing noble stone houses, the soaring bell tower of St. Nicholas church, and a string of waterfront cafes overlooking the bay. At the southern end, the Buiovic Palace houses the Perast Museum, which chronicles the town's seafaring past and its centuries-long role as a training ground for Venetian-fleet sailors.

Banja Monastery

Drive 2 km north beyond Perast toward Risan and you will find the Banja Monastery on the right-hand side. It safeguards religious artefacts from Russian, Greek, and local Boka noble families. Opening hours are generally mornings only — confirm at the tourist information point on Perast's waterfront.
