Tivat Airport to Kotor: The Most Scenic 20-Minute Drive in Europe

Bay road, tunnel shortcut, and parking tips

Kotor old town

Getting from TIV to Kotor

Tivat Airport sits at the southern end of the Bay of Kotor. The drive to Kotor's old town takes roughly 20 minutes via the Vrmac tunnel, or 35 minutes via the scenic bay road that hugs the waterfront through Prčanj and Dobrota.

The Vrmac tunnel opened in 2020 and cuts straight through the mountain between Tivat and Kotor. It's free, well-lit, and saves 15 minutes on the journey. If you're arriving late or in a hurry, take the tunnel.

The Scenic Bay Road

If you have time, the old bay road is one of Europe's most beautiful coastal drives. You'll pass through Prčanj, Stoliv, and Dobrota — tiny waterfront villages with stone churches, orange trees, and cats sleeping on sea walls.

Parking in Kotor

The old town is car-free. Park at the large car park outside the main gate (pay by hour), or continue past the old town to the free parking areas along the Dobrota waterfront. Summer weekends fill up by 10am — arrive early.

Quick tips

  • The Vrmac tunnel has no toll
  • Bay road has narrow sections — drive carefully
  • Old town car park charges by the hour (approx €2/hr)
  • Free parking available along Dobrota waterfront
