Driving the Bay of Kotor: A Complete Road Trip Guide

Perast, Herceg Novi, and the Verige ferry

Bay of Kotor

The Full Bay Loop

The Bay of Kotor is often called Europe's southernmost fjord. Driving the full loop takes you through ancient villages, past dramatic cliffs, and across the water by car ferry.

From Tivat Airport, you can go clockwise (Kotor first) or counter-clockwise (Herceg Novi first). Both options take 2–3 hours without stops.

Clockwise Route: TIV → Kotor → Perast → Risan → Herceg Novi

Start through the Vrmac tunnel to Kotor. Continue along the bay's north shore through Perast and Risan. Cross to the south shore via the Verige car ferry at Kamenari-Lepetane. Return to TIV.

The Verige Ferry

The car ferry at Kamenari-Lepetane runs continuously, roughly every 15 minutes. Cost is about €5 per car. The crossing takes 5 minutes and saves an hour of driving around the inner bay.
