Rental Car Fuel Policies
The fuel policy is one of the most overlooked parts of a car rental booking. Choosing the wrong one can easily cost you €30–€50 extra. Here's how each option works.
Full-to-Full (Recommended)
You collect the car with a full tank and return it full. This is the most transparent option — you only pay for the fuel you use, at pump prices. The nearest station to TIV is 800m on the road toward Tivat town.
Pre-Purchase (Avoid if Possible)
You pay for a full tank at booking, at a premium price. You return the car at any fuel level. Sounds convenient, but the per-litre cost is higher than pump prices, and you're unlikely to return the tank completely empty — so you're paying for fuel you don't use.
Same-to-Same
You collect the car at whatever level it happens to be, and return it at the same level. This can work, but it's harder to judge — and disagreements about the fuel gauge reading at return can lead to surprise charges.
Tips
- Always choose full-to-full if available
- Photograph the fuel gauge at pickup and return
- There's a Jugopetrol station 800m from TIV on the Tivat town road
- Premium fuel (95 octane) is standard in Montenegro — no need to worry about fuel grades
